As we know, India has gone through a troubled period when it comes to its diplomatic relations with neighboring China. The country recently banned TikTok and a number of Chinese applications, with New Delhi now targeting its artillery to the country’s manufacturers.
Thinking about this scenario of uncertainty and the expansion of anti-China sentiment, LG may end up taking the opportunity to expand its presence in India. That’s because more recent information indicates that South Korean wants to increase its local smartphone production by 15 times.
This move was confirmed by the head of communications for LG India, Advait Vaidya. According to the executive, in the last few months, there has been a 10-fold increase in the number of smartphones sold in the country.
Citing anti-China sentiment, Advait Vaidya also said that LG wants to expand its production to enter the New Delhi tax incentive program. Thus, the South Korean manufacturer would be able to deliver more competitive devices in the entry segment:
LG wants to focus on smartphones that cost less than 15,000 rupees (~ R $ 1,068). This segment is generally dominated by giants like Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and even Realme.
With the growing conflicts between New Delhi and Beijing, the Indian public has been looking to buy cell phones from non-China brands in a boycott movement. This has benefited South Korean manufacturers.

The most visible consequence is that LG is expected to launch six more smartphones in all segments by August. Samsung also plans to further strengthen its presence in India and the scenario may even take the company back to the top of the local market.
