With the re-mastering Shenmue 1 and 2 already in stores, Digital Foundry has brought to light the images of a remake of both classics in which Sega was working for a long time until finally opting to cancel the project to shape the quoted remasters of this revered series of adventures born in Dreamcast.
Apparently, this ambitious project was committed to present a completely renewed envelope: the structure of levels and action maintained the essence of the originals, but the modeling of characters, quality of textures and environmental effects would be typical of the new times. The video published by Digital Foundry lets you see how this first version of the remakes of Shenmue 1 and 2 looked like.
From its development, the same British study was in charge that finally would give life to the remastering. Reasons for cancellation? The low popularity of the Shenmue saga, coupled with the high development costs required by a project of this magnitude, led Sega to backtrack in its intention to create a remake, finally betting on the remastering that premiered last August in PC, Xbox One and PS4.
