Xiaomi has released the stable update of Android 9 Pie for Redmi S2 in China. The Chinese manufacturer has backed off by releasing the update after canceling its plans to bring the ninth edition of Google’s operating system to the model.
The company also remained true to its commitment to always make the smartphone kernel source available by publishing updated sources based on Android Pie. The initiative is important to encourage the work of developers in creating custom ROMs.
When upgrading the Redmi S2 in China, the device is also expected to receive the update soon in India, where it is called Redmi Y2 and is one of the best selling devices in the country.
The model was launched in the first half of 2018, equipped with Android 8.1, under the MIUI 9.1 interface. Subsequently, it received the MIUI 10 still based on Oreo. However, the news of the cancellation had lowered hopes of a future arrival of Android Pie.
