A preliminary report released by consulting firm Gartner shows that after two-quarters of decline, the PC market (notebooks and desktops) increased by 1.5% in the second quarter of 2019. There were 63 million units sold, compared to 62 million in the same period last year.
Regarding brands, Lenovo, Hewlett-Packard, and Dell account for almost two each sold globally. Together, the brands hold 64% of the remittances, a number that grew in relation to the same period of 2018 (60.7%).
Lenovo dominates the market with a 25% market share, or better, one in four PCs sold in the period are the Chinese manufacturer – in India, the company is also ahead in the tablet market. HP came in second with 22.2% followed by Dell with 16.9% and Apple topped 5.9%. Then appear Acer and Asus.
According to Mikako Kitagawa, Gartner’s lead analyst, PC sales growth in the second half was driven by a growing demand for Windows 10 in the commercial market. Desktop growth has offset the decline in notebooks. Another reason pointed out by the economist is the end of the shortage of Intel chips.
