OnePlus opens development center in India dedicated to 5G, AI and IoT

OnePlusOnePlus announced on Monday (26), its first R&D unit in India. The new facility is located in Hyderabad City and should focus on designing products related to Artificial Intelligence (IA), Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G.

According to OnePlus CEO Pete Lau, the company’s intention is to transform this $ 138 million investment into the company’s largest global research center. The executive said:

The installation will not only play a key role in the development of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in OnePlus products, but will also drive innovations that are focused and relevant to the company’s Indian community.

During the project’s inauguration, Lau also pointed out that he chose the city of Hyderabad due to a large number of startups installed in the region.

In addition to having some of the most passionate members of the OnePlus community, the city is also one of the most active start-up zones in the country, especially in the emerging technologies space.

The new company initiative should still house three laboratories: cameras, communications, and automation. According to OnePlus, Indian engineers must also work on improvements for OxygenOS, including design changes and creation of features unique to the Indian public.
