Coming out of the oven, Android Q in its fifth Beta build will slightly alter the gesture navigation system, better reconciling Back command management and opening the side navigation menu.
Currently, in Beta 4, to go back, you need to slide the edge of the screen to the center. Depending on how you handle the phone and/or the size of the hands, however, it is likely that this gesture overlaps the layer on the side navigation menu or a touch on the menu border (usually on the left).
Google’s solution is to add a small ” delay ” to start the side menu: press and hold the side of the screen until an animation shows the ” spy ” menu, which leaves no room for further action, except continue dragging out.
It is a system that Huawei and Honor cell phone owners already know about EMUI, considering that it is quite similar.
🚧 The drawer behavior is changing. Users will be able to open the drawer by peeking the drawer, and then swiping. Big benefit is that this works with existing apps with "old" DrawerLayout versions. pic.twitter.com/WVyOzQFzHO

Of course, the traditional settings button ( three horizontal lines ) in the upper left corner will continue to work normally, but with the change, it can be a bit uncomfortable to reach with the thumb.
Applications will also have tougher limitations for excluding gestures from the side edges.
For now, there are no precise details on when Android Q Beta 5 will be released. Google’s official timeline has given some traces of the four compilations, but the fifth and sixth remain unknown.

Beta 5 is apparently a compilation very close to the final version of Android 10 Q, which is scheduled to be officially released in the third quarter of this year, in the base period from July to September. We believe he will be released in the last month.
